Low-cost Mediterranean diet for every pocket

Low-cost Mediterranean diet for every pocket

Following a Mediterranean eating pattern doesn't have to increase the price of your shopping basket

In times of crisis like the ones we are experiencing, false myths appear regarding the Mediterranean diet; one of them, "that it is expensive". That is, consumers believe that buying key products of this type of diet means an increase in the price of the shopping basket and a blow to their pockets.

Modernity, the Achilles' heel
Paradoxically, the increase in the quality of life and purchasing power of citizens, brought about by industrialisation and globalisation, has contributed, in certain segments of the population, to the emergence of a food culture whose characteristics are taking it further and further away from the Mediterranean diet.
We can say, then, that we have more money than before, more free time and greater access to all kinds of products thanks to globalisation, but, however, our eating habits and styles are worse: we eat faster, we overconsume high-calorie products, the terms gastronomy and dietetics are confused, and established meal times are not adhered to. Therefore, following a Mediterranean diet does not have to be expensive or affect our pockets; it is simply a matter of changing habits. Currently, the challenge is to regulate individual appetite in the face of an unlimited quantity of products.

More than just a dietary pattern
The Mediterranean diet is also a way of understanding life, as demonstrated by the excellent appreciation of our gastronomy by the 52 million tourists who visit Spain every year. For them, eating out in our country is a real experience and a form of social expression and communication.
Low cost diet
Culinary pleasure and dietary guidelines do not have to be at odds, even in times like the ones we are experiencing. We can assure you that there are an infinite number of foods within the Mediterranean diet that, in addition to being healthy and nutritious, are a true delight while also being cheap and affordable for every budget.
In fact, looking at your wallet can help to recover and re-integrate certain types of foods from the Mediterranean pattern, which have infinite preparation possibilities, into our diet. We propose a small list of low-cost Mediterranean foods below:
